Santa Margarida Festival

July is always a month of celebration in Santa Margarida da Coutada, since it is when the festival in honour of the patron saint of the parish takes place.

With both religious and secular dimensions, the festivities comprise various activities, such as bicycle touring, fishing gatherings, handicraft exhibitions, open-air popular festivals with dances and bazaars, traditional games, an “arruada” and other forms of entertainment.

The festival reaches its climax on the closest Sunday to 20 of July (Saint Margarida’s day). The day begins with an “arruada” through the five towns of the parish. The mass in honour of the patron saint, at the Parish Church of St. Margarida, and the procession through the streets of the village take place in the afternoon.
