Churchyard Fair – Nossa Senhora das Candeias Festival

Since 1758, the parish of Olival annually hosts, on 2 February, a pilgrimage comprising a vigil, a mass, a procession and a fair, which starts at the yard of the old church. This pilgrimage is also known by Pine Nuts Festival, as they are the main product being sold. At lunch it is served an improved mess food with green soups and lamb stew. The dried fruits, trees, crops and agricultural implements to sell create the scenery of a rural market that enhances the neighbourhood and the fraternisation spirit.
