| The Santa Maria do Castelo Church or D. Lopo de Almeida Museum, as this national Monument is also known, is a 15th century temple located a few metres away from the Palace of the Counts of Abrantes.
Simplicity is the main feature of this monument, not only on the outside façade but also inside. It houses a magnificent set of tombs from the Almeida family, which stands out because of its Seville tiles in dry rope technique, quite rare in the country. In 1921 it was set up, in the premises of the church, the D. Lopo de Almeida Museum, which keeps an important artistic, heritage and historic collection, such as paintings and sculptures, archaeological items, vestments and gilded carving, as well as tombs from the 15th and 16th centuries. |
