Parish Church of Sardoal

The Parish Church of Sardoal was over the years subject to various refurbishment works harmoniously performed and which gave it a set of characteristics representative of various styles, from the gothic to the contemporary.

Be surprised by the flaming rosette and the gothic portals, paying special attention to the main one which comprises a gothic arch with two capitalised small columns (the one on the right features a woman’s face and the one on the left a man with a crown). The Boards by the Sardoal Master, dated from the end of the 15th to the beginning of the 16th centuries, are one of the most relevant artistic heritages of the municipality.

On the side walls of the presbytery one can find tiles panels (1701) by Gabriel del Barco, an important Spanish tiles maker and ceiling painter from the baroque era.

The oldest statue at the Parish Church is a Pietà in polychrome stone from the end of the 14th century. Find it at one of the corbels on the wall of the transept arch.
