Abraham Zacuto Luso-Hebrew Museum

At the Abraham Zacuto Luso-Hebrew Museum, created in 1993, one can discover tombstones and worship objects representative of the cultural activities of the Jews in Portugal. The collection also has books about the Jewish traditions and celebrations. Excavations at the adjoining room revealed coins, pottery for domestic use and a “Mikva” bath water warming system.

Samuel Schwarz donated the Synagogue’s building to the Portuguese state under the condition that it would accommodate the Luso-Hebrew Museum.

Currently the museum receives visitors from various countries, but mainly from Germany, Belgium, Spain, France and Israel.
