Big House or Almeidas’ House

 
The Big House, or Almeidas’ House, dominates the space where it stands, as it covers one of the sides of the Luís de Camões Avenue in its entirety. Built at the end 17th century or the beginning of the 18th century, the main family of Sardoal’s nobility, the Moura Mendonça, lived here.

The origin of the name “Almeida’s House” is not clear. But it is believed that it may have been built over the remains of the Almeidas’ residence, lords of Sardoal during close to two centuries.
