![]() | At the top of the hill, the Medieval Village of Ourém houses the past of the municipality. Go through the walls, walk along the narrow cobbled streets and discover an architectural heritage which combines the Gothic, Mudejar, Manueline, Baroque and Pombaline styles.
Although there are traces of human occupation since the pre-history, this walled town was mainly developed during the medieval period. After the “Reconquista” to the Moors, it was given by King Afonso Henriques to his daughter, D. Teresa, who granted it the first charter and the coat of arms in 1180. |
