Alexandre Herculano Square

 
The Alexandre Herculano Square bears the mark of the passing of the years. Every time it is necessary to dig in the square’s subsoil due to construction works, it is common to find bones, since, until the existence of civil graveyards, the surrounding area served as burial ground for many generations.      

Some of the marks left by various floods can be seen on the corner of the square with the street Luís de Camões.

The name of the square is a tribute to the historian Alexandre Herculano.
