Roman Forum of Tomar

Testimony of the roman presence in the municipality of Tomar, the Roman Forum, founded during the 1st century AD by Emperor Augusto, was set in the itinerary which connected Olisipo to Bracara Augusta.

The entrance to the Forum was through the galleries which ended in the Basilica and the Square. The rectangular floorplan Basilica occupied the south side of the square. Five of the eight primitive columns of the internal portal and remnants of the old tribune are still visible today.
