Routes

The River Almonda rises at Moinho da Fonte in the area of the Arrife of Serra de Aire, and, after a path of 30 km, flows into the Tagus. It is flanked by wetlands almost since the source until the mouth, where they look more like small marshes, giving the landscape unique characteristics.

Dare to discover the spring caves of Almonda, which are a true treasure of the national speleology. They feature many underground streams which are the source of the springs of the river Almonda. Discover also the many archaeological sites, which stretch back to the Lower Palaeolithic until the Roman period.

In the city of Torres Novas, walk along the Avenue Garden and the Roses Garden, located at the banks of the River Almonda. The Boquilobo Bog Nature Reserve, near the confluence of the Almonda with the Tagus, is the ideal place for those who wish to see colonies of herons and waterfowls flying over an area with clumps of willows, aquatic plants and reeds.
