![]() | After an underground path of many tens of kilometres, the River Alviela springs from between the rocks at the site of Olhos de Água in the municipality of Alcanena. This is the most important karst spring in the country, reaching up to 30 metres cubic flow rate per second. The River Alviela flows into the Tagus after a path of 51 km.
The River Beach of Olhos de Água waits for you during the warmer days, so you can enjoy the calm waters and the surrounding leisure space, ornamented with typically Mediterranean plants. At the Centre of “Ciência Viva” of Alviela, unveil the underground paths of the water in 3D, as well as the many fauna, flora and geological characteristics through interactive exhibitions. Go on an adventure at the Natural Park of Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, which is rich in karst formations, such as caves and grottos. The landscape lacks watercourses on the surface but there are many underground streams and some freshwater ponds. |
