Routes

The Republic Square and its parallel and perpendicular streets form the historic centre of Tomar. Visit the São João Baptista Church and the Town Hall, which are accompanied by the statue of the city’s founder, Gualdim Pais, set at the centre of the square. From the Serpa Pinto Street, former Corredoura, be amazed by the image of the Templar Castle guarding the city from the top of the verdant hill.

Stroll along the old streets and discover the Synagogue and the many windows with historical and architectural interest. The Tourism Office building gathers windows and gates from the Renaissance which were part of other buildings in the city. Further down, at the Arco Lane, there are sash windows and a corner window from the last period of the Renaissance. At the Silva Magalhães Street, the Manuel Guimarães House by João de Castilho features a corner window with balusters. The Camarão Street, close to the Pelourinho Square, keeps one of the most beautiful windows in the city.
